During the account creation process, Owners have the ability to request access to tax exemptions. The tax exemption process can be initiated at any time from the Account Settings page by Owners and Accountants.
The current status of the account is listed under the “Tax Exemption” heading, and will be in either of two states: "Not Exempt" or "Exemptions Accepted."
- If the status is "Not Exempt" then they will be charged tax based on their listed physical address. This is currently only applicable for US and Canadian based states and territories.
- If the status is "Exemptions Accepted" then all accepted exemptions will be applied to the tax during each month's payment. It's important to note that some states have multiple levels of taxation so an account may still be charged tax, even with exemptions, but at a lower rate.
To initiate the tax exemption process, click on the “Request Tax Exemption Forms" button. This will put in a request to our tax service provider, Avalara CertCapture, which will send an email to your account.
Follow the instructions in the email and related web pages to upload any relevant tax exemption documents for your account. Once you have uploaded the forms, it may take a few days for them to be verified and accepted. You can return to this page to verify their status.
